Restoring a youthful appearance to the male and female face can provide a revitalizing feeling and may not require much! Facial fillers and Cosmetic Botox or Dysport can replace volume loss and relax wrinkles within days of treatment, respectively.

Facial Peels

Facial peels are a gratifying way to remove blemishes and age spots while providing a smooth uniform texture throughout the face. Depending on the depth of the peel, the skin may tighten with the disappearance of fine wrinkles. This procedure is performed with the patient awake minimizing discomfort with local anesthetic and soothing ointments.

Botox/Dysport

Cosmetic Botox or Dysport can be used to prevent progression of the fine lines of the frown, forehead and crows feet area( wrinkles to the side of the eye) by weakening the muscles that create these lines. They can also be used to treat formed moderate to deep lines in the same areas. Non FDA approved uses also include raising the drooping corners of the lips, relaxing a gummy smile and the dimples of the chin.

Fillers

Filler is a nonreactive product that comes in various forms (Radiesse, Juvaderm, Restalyne, Perlane, Belotera, Voluma, Sculptura) used to restore volume loss in the face most commonly the nasolabial folds( laugh lines), lips, jawline, flattened appearance of the cheeks, tear trough (hollowing beneath the eye) and the area of the temple. Treatment can be expected to last a year(longer with Sculptura which is placed in stages) at which time more product may be required.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting of the face involves removing fat deposits from bothersome areas of the body and carefully transferring to volume depleted areas of the face to restore a youthful and full appearance.

Because the fat deposits are autologous (from your own body) the face incorporates most of this transferred fat can last for years longer than fillers. Retention of the fat grafts is lower in more dynamic areas such as the lips and laugh lines than in the more static areas of the cheek and mid-face. Recovery following fat graft transfer to the face can vary from one to two weeks depending on the areas treated.

ThermiRase™

(Temperature Controlled Radio Frequency for Frown Lines)

If you are looking for an alternative to Botox and neurotoxins for frown lines between your eyes, known as glabellar frown lines or “elevens” and you would like to smooth in-between-the-brow area, another available option is  ThermiRase™.

With aging, our skin loses elasticity. When we frown or squint or make facial expressions in response to our emotions, two major muscles, the corrugator and procerus, control the movement between our eyebrows. And although our muscles contract and relax, our skin doesn’t bounce back like it used to. In 2002, when the FDA approved the use of Botox®, this was generally the most effective way to smooth those frown lines. Until now…

ThermiRase™ or Radiofrequency (RF) nerve ablation, has been in use throughout other medical specialties such as cardiology, pain management, and dermatology for nearly ten years. Now the same technology is being employed to ablate certain nerves that control the muscle movement in between the eyes.

ThermiRase is a micro-invasive procedure based on a peer reviewed protocol* to disable the nerves which control the muscles responsible for glabella frown lines. This procedure applies radio frequency energy to selected nerves. In a recent study, the effect lasted more than one year in almost 80% of the subjects, thus validating the opportunity for a long term alternative to neurotoxins.

ThermiRase™ is a minimally invasive procedure performed in our office with local anesthesia, usually taking approximately 30 minutes. The skin is cleansed and disinfected. An aesthetic may be injected to minimize discomfort. A radiofrequency probe tip is placed just under the skin with controlled low level energy impulses used to stimulate and identify the nerves that cause the muscle to contract. Once the correct nerve is identified, a controlled radio frequency (RF) energy is administered to a portion of the nerve to disrupt its ability to contract the muscle related to the wrinkle.

Lesioning is done in three steps:

  • Stimulate (locate the nerve)
  • Inject a drop of local anesthesia
  • Treat – apply heat for about 1 minute

This process is repeated several times until the patient is unable to make a frown.

Like Botox, the ThermiRase procedure prevents the muscles from full function, and gives you a more relaxed and natural look. But unlike Botox which lasts about 2-4 months, ThermiRase results last longer. Patientss are seeing smooth results for about 12-18 months.

Eyelid Surgery

One of the most commonly performed procedures for facial rejuvenation is the upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty (removal of excess skin from the upper and lower eyelid) . During this procedure the tired and saggy appearance of the upper eyelid as well as the thin and puffy bags of the lower eyelid are restored into a more awake and youthful appearance. This procedure can be performed safely under general or local anesthesia. Recovery to normal activities can be expected within 3 days with return to more strenuous activity within 2 weeks. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with a facelift or browlift.

Facelift

A rhytidectomy or “facelift” is performed to address the decent of the both skin and soft tissue of the lower face oftentimes including the neck. Oftentimes a peel (to address the skin blemishes) and fat grafting (to address the volume loss with age) are performed simultaneously to provide complete treatment. The facelift procedure is performed under general anesthesia (with the patient safely asleep) and includes removal of excess skin and tightening of the previous laxity in the underlying muscle layer. This is an elective same day surgery with a return to most normal activities within one week and more strenuous activity at 3 weeks.

Nose Job

A rhinoplasty (commonly known as a “nosejob” ) reshapes the nose by either reducing or increasing the size of the different parts to create a nose proportional to the rest of the face. This procedure is performed to adjust longstanding irregularities or following traumatic injuries. This may require adjusting the width of the nose base as well as addressing the septum (cartilage within the nose) if the patient is having difficulty breathing through the nose. Unwanted humps of the nose or augmentation of a flattened appearing nose are performed as well. If the width of the nose has been adjusted a protective splint is often applied which also aids to minimize swelling. Recovery to normal activities  following rhinoplasty varies from one to two weeks depending on the tailored procedure performed for each patient.

Necklift

A necklift is oftentimes performed in conjunction with a facelift but small areas of fat deposits can be treated in isolation with controlled liposuction or removal of excess skin and tightening of the underlying muscle bands that have spread apart. This procedure restores a youthful smooth contour to the neck and jawline. Recovery after necklift is similar to that of a facelift, less so with liposuction only.
