Greater Boston Plastic Surgery offers Body Contouring and Rejuvenation at its multiple offices throughout Massachusetts.

Body contouring procedures treat both excess skin and fat tissue deposits. These include liposuction (aspiration of excess fatty deposits) in the abdomen, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), total body lift (circumferential lift of the abdomen and back), and the Brazilian butt lift.

Liposuction

Liposuction removes excess fat deposits from most areas of the body including the neck, arms, axilla (armpit area and side of breast), abdomen, thighs, back and hips. Localized areas of fatty deposits can be treated comfortably and safely with the patient awake using local anesthetic while larger areas are done with the patient under general anesthesia (safely asleep under the care of an anesthesiologist). Liposuction by itself is not indicated for areas with significant skin redundancy which are better served in conjunction with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or a body lift. Following the procedure, patients maintain compressive garments. Recovery varies depending on the areas treated with most patients returning to normal activities within a couple of days and more strenuous activity within 2 weeks.

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty or a “tummy tuck” oftentimes includes liposuction to contour the hips with the removal of excess skin and the tightening of the midline abdominal muscles that stretch apart with pregnancy or normal aging. This is performed safely as an elective same day procedure under general anesthesia restoring a youthful contour to the abdomen and hips. Recovery after abdominoplasty to normal activity can be expected in about one week with return to more strenuous activity within a month.

Body Lift

A body lift is similar to an abdominoplasty except that the removal of excess skin and fat deposits includes bothersome areas of the back. A similar recovery to that of an abdominoplasty can be expected.

Brazilian Butt Lift

The Brazilian butt lift uses a nearly incision-less approach of removing unwanted fat deposits from bothersome areas and transferring the fat cells the buttocks in a delicate and controlled fashion to produce more projection and contouring based on each patient’s desire. This procedure alone is not indicated for patients with a significant amount of excess skin in which removal of skin may be necessary as well.
